Hello and welcome to TheCookingYam – a blog that covers all things food, nutrition and health, from a simple perspective.

I’d like to quickly introduce myself – I’m a student with a passion for cooking, health and nutrition. I grew up learning to cook by helping my nan in the kitchen and watching an infinite series of cooking programmes, especially those by my food idol – Jamie Oliver. I have always wanted to learn more about the culinary world, and as I became more involved in sports as a teenager, nutrition naturally became part of this.

Years on, I’m now on placement as part of my BSc. Sport & Exercise Science degree at Loughborough University, and my aim is to use this year to put my experience and skills in both cooking and sports science into practice. Though studying, placement work and a whole load of other commitments place a demand on my time, one thing that has remained a constant in my busy life is my love of cooking. As ‘TheCookingYam’, I will post simple recipes for snacks and meals (suitable for a range of diets, but mainly pescatarian/vegetarian due to my personal diet), and share my knowledge as I undertake an Advanced Diploma in Sport and Exercise Nutrition. By doing so, I hope to make this blog a useful resource for:

  • Time-restricted people who want quick and nutritious meal inspiration
  • Active individuals and athletes who want to support their lifestyle with good nutrition
  • Those with dietary requirements who want to enjoy good food, without all of the expensive substitutions
  • Anyone who, like me, is always interested in learning something new!

Recipes will always either be my own or will contain a link to the original source, nutrition, health and fitness information will always be supported with the correct facts and relevant sources, and there will be no promotion of products, brands, or any sort of diet. The last thing the world needs is another commercialised bandwagon blog, and that’s not what I want to create! At a time when fitness fads and meal-prep madness is everywhere you turn, I feel it can be difficult to find just good quality recipes and information. So, I hope my blog can provide the down-to-earth, honest information that you’re looking for, always kept simple.

I'm a BSc Sport and Exercise Science Graduate from Loughborough University, and also work as a Nutrition Advisor and recipe developer for organisations such as British Swimming, Colour Fit and Bam Organic. I'm passionate about all things food, health and fitness, and have an ambition to share my knowledge with others. Qualified with Grade Distinction in Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Sports Nutrition to support my interest in food and health for active individuals.
